| Vehicles registered outside JK plying freely on roads | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 19: Despite directions of the government, Transport Department has failed to check the plying of vehicles registered outside the state. The concerned had assured a major drive against such vehicle but till date nothing has been done. There are apprehensions that such vehicles could pose a major security threat. Pertinent to mention, vehicles registered outside the state cannot stay in Jammu Kashmir for more than a year unless it is registered with the competent authority here. In such a case, the owner has to apply for change of address and re-registration. He has to obtain a NOC from the state where the vehicle was first registered. Official sources said that thousands of vehicles bearing outsider registration number have been staying in the state for more than two years without following the prescribed norms. Transport Commissioner Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo said when a vehicle with outside registration Number is found, the department takes appropriate action. |
