CM-controlled police deptt accords raw deal to Jammu youth
Recruitment Of Constables
6/20/2012 1:00:56 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 19: The NC-Congress coalition government, it seems, committed to harming the Jammu youth at all levels and in all spheres, notwithstanding its oft-repeated statement that it is committed to treating all the three regions of the state and the people they house equally. That the coalition government has been making hollow statements in this regard and that it has turned out to be highly anti-Jammu could be seen from the fact that the police department between October 2010 and May 2012 recruited 1951 constables, but the share of the Jammu youth was a paltry 287. 1664 posts of constables went to Kashmir. In other words, the share of Jammu youth is about 20 per cent. The break-up is like this: Khaniyar 132, Eidgah 201, Amirakadal 275, Habbakadal 342, Chadura 392, Wachi 158 and Batmaloo 164 - all in Kashmir. As for Jammu, the break-up is like this: Kishtwar 47, Akhnoor (Khaur) 173 and Nagrota 67.
The recruitment was done under the overall supervision of the Director General of Police. The home portfolio is with none other than Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. It was in February 2010 that the then Director General of Police Kuldip Khoda launched the recruitment drive as per the directions of the home department. The drive was launched from Kishtwar. The unemployed youth in Jammu are crying for justice, but with no result. Only fake assurances. This is the kind of treatment the coalition government has meted out to the Jammu youth, despite the fact that the unemployment rate in Jammu province is nearly 30 per cent, as against less than 30 per cent in Kashmir. The step-motherly treatment meted out to the Jammu youth has caused resentment in Jammu, with a number of non-Congress and non-NC taking on the state government and demanding a rational and state-centric recruitment policy. But it appears doubtful if the authorities would rectify the mistake and give the Jammu youth their legitimate due share. This is the general view in Jammu. There is also view that the "Chief Minister has compensated Kuldip Khoda for the services he rendered as Director General of Police". Khoda is being appointed as Chief Vigilance Commissioner. The file is pending with the state governor.
