CM's remarks against Alam childish: Wani | JCC calls for four day strike of state employees | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 19: Calling Chief Minister's remarks against Khursheed Alam childish, the Joint Consultative Committee, an amalgam of leading trade unions of state government employees today announced four day protest programme to press its demands. The demands which include enhancement of employees' retirement age, removal of pay disparity and regularization of adhoc, temporary employees and payment of 6th pay commission arrears. Addressing a press conference after hectic deliberations, the JCC leaders called for a four day strike starting July 9. However, the JCC has said all schools, colleges and universities shall remain open on July 10 and 11. "Government employees will hold a peaceful demonstration at their respective district headquarters on July 11 and gherao the respective offices of Deputy Commissioners", said JCC leader Ab Qayoom Wani. "On July 12, at least 50,000 employees will hold a peaceful demonstration at Lal Chowk near the Clock Tower", he added. Terming the decision of the senior JCC leader Khurshid Alam to retire from active government service as a slap on the face of the government, Wani criticized the Chief Minister for what he called his Childish remarks. "This is not a struggle of individuals but a cause of the 4 lakh employees of the state who have been compelled to come on the road", Wani said. A large gathering of state employees chanted anti- government slogans particularly targeting the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his alleged inaction and recent remarks against JCC leader Khursheed Alam. The JCC leader said the fifth round of agitation will be the final opportunity for the state government to fulfill the employees' demands. "In case they fail to fulfil our demands and use force to quell the employees' peaceful programme, we will have no other alternative but to go on an indefinite strike", the JCC leader warned. Meanwhile, senior JCC leader Mohammad Khurshid Alam handed over his application for voluntary retirement from government services to the concerned authorities
