Politics over miseries of people facing water, power crisis | BJP leaders in race to sympathize, NC leader's 'order' unrealistic | | early times report Jammu, June 19: Politics gets on peak when it is done on blood and miseries of people. This holds true for the political parties in Jammu which are in race to be among the first for a common cause- crying over erratic power and water supply in this scorching heat which has made lives of people unbearable. The competition is getting tough between the two factions of state unit of BJP the leaders of which have sent themselves into sudden active mode in beating their chests over plight of Jammuites. Few days back if it was veteran politician Prof CL Gupta who sat on dharna to register protests and seek government attention over power crisis, erratic water supply amid soaring mercury levels, his gesture of sympathizing with Jammu masses aimed apparently at garnering and mobilizing public support has sent state BJP cadres into a frenzy of activity. While the state unit has already planned programmes in registering protests over a host of issues including lack of basic facilities across the country, this time by newest mode of courting arrests, the state leadership is all set to kickstart it with a 'starry ' presence from June 22. The party leadership today declared that its Mahila Morcha National President and MP Smriti Irani will court arrest in Jammu on Friday, June 22 as a part of country wide jail bharo andolan being observed by the party on that day. While this is surely going to attract masses attention and make some impact in otherwise dull political scenario here, the focus in Jammu shall remain on current power crisis and drinking water shortage , the two major issues on account of which people are fuming against the ruling Congress and National Conference of neglecting them completely, while leaders of both the parties are cozying themselves in cool environs of Kashmir. However, what came as sudden and unplanned activity in the BJP leadership was the procession taken out by MLA Ashok Khajuria through the main bazaars of Jammu city to register his 'anger' against the NC led coalition over unscheduled power cuts in almost entire Jammu , the frequency of which has lately increased. Pertinently, Khajuria has been seen avoiding making hard hitting statements against coalition government lately, nevertheless he has focused himself on constituency development works. What apparently pushed him into this active mode is the gesture of leaders of other faction led by Prof Gupta. And one more interesting development in the series of 'political gestures' over miseries of Jammu people was the statement made by NC leader and Industries minister SS Salathia yesterday at Summer Secretariat Jammu shall get additional 20 lakh units of power to meet the crisis immediately. While the NC leader for the first time, perhaps after himself feeling the pinch of scorching summer , made this seemingly 'unrealistic ' statement for the sake of politics which is going on over the plight of people. His statement follows no action, whatsoever from the authorities in PDD. Congress on expected lines is quiet and unconcerned, not even indulging the political one up manship over the issue.
