Zambian dance troupe enthrals Jammuites

jammu, June 20: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Jammu Regional office organised a show presented by Zambia Cultural Dance Troupe (ZCDT) from Africa. The African troupe enthralled the audience with their power packed performance of Music and Dances of Zambia at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Grounds here today. Dilbagh Singh, IGP Jammu Zone was the Chief Guest on the occasion. This was the first international performance organised by the Regional Office of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
The Zambian dance troupe is a group of professional artists drawn from nine different professional community based cultural ensembles in Zambia with a view of supporting the 'One Zambia, One Nation' motto, through art and culture. The group has worked with different organizations both locally and worldwide including the Government of Republic of Zambia through National and International activities. The group is headed by the Director of the Cultural affairs of the Government of Republic of Zambia and is escorted by the First secretary of the High Commission of Zambia, in India. Giving details about the International Cultural Troupe, Balwant Thakur, the Regional Director of ICCR informed that a twelve member group of artists has come to Jammu from Lusaka (Africa) to present before the Jammu audiences the traditional music and dance performances of Africa. Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India is currently hosting festival of Africa in India and under that programme series of programmes are being organised and Jammu performance is also a part of it.
The dances performed by the group were 'Nyakasanga', 'Tamaya', 'Fwemba', 'Nden-deule', 'Vimbuza', 'Chiyanda', 'Akalela', 'Manc-hancha' and 'Chingande' these dances are performed in different occasions, seasons and stages of life in Zambia.
