Dy CM reviews local body election preparedness | | | early times report Srinagar, June 20 : Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand has emphasized upon the officers to complete updating of election registration rolls and inclusion of left over areas with concerned municipal corporations and municipal committees so that local body elections are conducted early in the State. Deputy Chief Minister was reviewing the preparedness of the Government for holding local body elections in the State at an officers meeting here today. Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Suresh Kumar Sharma, Chief Electoral Officer, B. R. Sharma, Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar and Jammu districts, Commissioners of Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations, Directors of Local Bodies, Kashmir and Jammu and Secretary Srinagar Municipal Corporation were present on the occasion. Deputy Chief Minister asked officers to take into confidence the public representatives before making inclusion of any part of habitation with twin municipal corporations and other municipal committees in view of the expansion of cities and towns. He directed them to complete this process and submit its recommendations by end of ensuing month. Tara Chand said the devolution of powers at the gross-root level would bring efficiency and transparency in public service delivery mechanism. Under lining need for close coordination of line departments, the Deputy Chief Minister asked officers to mobilize their men and machinery and ensure completion of election related formalities in time bound manner. |
