Hold municipal polls to save real essence of democracy: Singla | | | early times report jammu, June 20 : Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (JKP YCC), Vice President (Lok Sabha) Yarun Singla today has said that real essence of democracy lies in decentralization of powers for which National Conference (NC)-Congress coalition government must hold elections to the Municipal Corporations of both Jammu as well as Srinagar and to local bodies at the earliest. He said that ever expanding cities and towns of Jammu and Kashmir State also need delimitation so that new wards can be created. Singla in his statement said ever since Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has been dissolved most of the wards in Jammu city have started wearing a shabby look. He expressed his concern over rising cases of jaundice amongst infants and said that because of contaminated water supply through old and broken pipelines have created this havoc. He asked the National Building Construction Corporation (NB-CC) and Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) to speed up work on sewer lines and ensure that all broken pipelines are repaired with immediate effect for supply clean potable water. Appreciating the government for installing traffic lights on city roads, Varun urged people to cooperate with traffic authorities and help maintain smooth traffic on roads. The PYCC Vice President also urged the authorities to make elaborate arrangements for Amarnath Yatra. |
