MLA Gupta threatens stir against 'Greater Autonomy' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21 : The former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has voiced his serious concern over the reports that the coalition leaders of the Congress and that of the National Conference are in unison in the moves for making Article -370 a permanent feature and also diluting the supremacy of the Parliament in Jammu & Kashmir with the design of granting "Greater Autonomy" as suggested in the most controversial report of Justice Sageer Ahmed and subsequent report of the 3 interlocutors who were appointed by the Union Home Minister, Sh. P. Chidambaram, knowing fully well the dubious credentials of these "Wiseman" In a statement, Prof. Gupta recalled that in the name of Autonomy for J&K Article-370 was inserted in the Constitution as a Temporary provision despite opposition by several nationalists including Moulana Mohani and many others. So much so even the draft framing father of the Constitution Dr. B.R Ambedkar was not in favour of this provision and he had told Sheikh Abdullah also that being the Law Minister of the country he cannot deprive the people of rest of India of their basic rights in J&K while people of this State would enjoy all the rights like other citizens in the entire country. Prof. Gupta also recalled that the then Prime Minister, Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru had promised the countrymen that this Temporary provision of Article -370 would wither away with the passage of time but it was strange that even after 60 years, the Congressmen too enjoy the company of semi separatists supporting the moves for what they call the strengthening of the special status of J&K by making Article-370 as permanent and showing willingness to review all the articles and central laws extended to J&K during the past six decades. Prof. Gupta said that this so called special status granted under Article -370 has caused great harm not only to the national interests and country as a whole but also to the people of J&K who have been denied their democratic and other rights, so much so even the basic democracies including the Panchayats and local Bodies have been made a mockery by not extending the 73rd and 74the amendments of the Indian Constitution. He warned serious repercussions of the moves for diluting the sovereignty of the Parliament in the name of Autonomy to J&K. The nationalist people of this State have already suffered a lot and any move to further weaken ties between this State and the rest of India would not be tolerated as enough harm already has been done by such seperatists and semi separatists elements who are essentially the actors and operators of communal considerations enshrined in the Two Nations Theory which had brought great pain and sufferings to the masses. |
