No respite from blazing heat wave affect till June 30 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 21: While blazing heat continues to engulf Jammu plains with the temperature hovering around 45 degree Celsius during last three days, the weathermen see no respite from the hot conditions till June 30. As per the weathermen, , like the previous day, also recorded 42.4 degree Celsius, about 3 notches above the normal and the minimum at 28.3 Celsius- 2 degrees above the normal. They also said there was no respite in sight from the baking heat for the next two days. They predicted that temperature will continue to rise during next two days. However, there is some possibility of rainfall after May 20 and the people may get some respite from the prevailing heat wave, the Met officials predicted. "No respite in sight from sun in next two days, temperature will further rise across the state, the dry weather conditions in northern parts of the country being the major reason", said Regional Director Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), Sonum Lotus. Lotus said that unusually high temperature in the northern region at this time of the year is due to the absence of any western disturbance- the phenomenon that has the potential to trigger some amount of precipitation. The climatic conditions in the peripheral districts of Kathua and Samba, besides parts of Jammu district including RS Pura, Akhnoor and other plain areas are no different. Even the hilly areas of the region, including Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar are witnessing a long dry spell as there had been no rain across the region in the past few days. "Last year temperature during this time period was also between 42-43 degrees and May is particularly the part of year when the temperature is highest. This also helps early arrival of monsoon in the state - almost by the end of June", said the Met official. Meanwhile, the health experts have issued an advisory to the people, especially children and old aged not to move out during daytime and avoid working in the sun without wearing protective clothing and hats and applying sunscreens. Similarly, the harsh climatic conditions have affected all walks of life in Jammu city. The city roads bear deserted look, particularly during day time as people prefer to remain indoors to avoid the blazing heat. |
