SRINAGAR, June 21: Stressing upon the wards of police personnel for getting modern education, the Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, has said that in the present times quality education for children has assumed much importance to make their career bright. He also stressed upon the parents to guide their wards towards right direction to make them responsible citizens of the society. Rajendra was addressing a meeting of Executive Body of Police Parivar Fund held at Police Headquarters here the other day. The meeting sanctioned scholarships over Rs. 11 lacs in favour of 153 school going children of JKP personnel.
Announcing the scholarships, the DGP said that police organization has been taking care of the wards of its personnel including those wards whose parents have sacrificed their lives for safety and security of the people and saved public property. He said that the sacrifices offered by those personnel have helped to bring the State back on the rails of development and peace. A policeman having a difficult nature of duty always remains far off from its family in the service of nation with the result his wards do not get required attention, he said. Realizing the hardships faced by the "men in uniform", the organization is taking various welfare measures to promote educational career of the wards of its personnel which include setting up of police public schools at various district headquarters, grant of scholarships in favour of meritorious wards and the children of deceased personnel/martyrs.
The wards include 81 children of those personnel, who laid down their lives for the security of the State. Scholarships have also been sanctioned in favour of 72 meritorious wards of serving personnel who have secured distinction in 8th c class examinations during the academic session 2011-2012.
Deliberating on the welfare measures, Rajendra said that the welfare of its personnel and their families is on top of organization's agenda and for the promotion of education among the wards of the personnel, the department is providing scholarships to the meritorious children, who secure distinction in different examinations up to graduation level. The step has served as an encouragement for the students and has boosted their talent to compete in professional examinations also. Besides the organization, taking care of the wards of martyrs, has also been providing scholarships to assist them in continuing their studies and getting modern education, said the DGP. He disclosed that the organization has been conducting free coaching classes for meritorious wards to prepare them for participation in competitive examinations. He advised the students to take advantage of these schemes for building their career.
