J&K Police Department condole former DG's demise

jammu, June 21: Jammu and Kashmir Police Department today has condoled untimely demise of former Director General of Police R V Raju, the first and founder Director General of National Investigation Agency (NIA) who died at a private hospital in Kochi. Top brass of police department, members of civil society and journalists paid tributes to the former police officer in a condolence meeting this morning at District Police Lines Jammu. The condolence meet was attended by officers and Jawans of various Wings of J&K Police, retired Police officers, senior & prominent citizen and media persons in which the services of the officer were highlighted and remembered. Two minute silence was also observer and prayers were offered for peace of the departed soul and grant of courage and fortitude for the family members to bear this irreparable loss. Flora tributes were also paid to the departed soul on this occasion.
Founder Director General of National Investigation Agency (NIA) R V Raju was yesterday admitted in a hospital in Kochi. 62-year-old Raju was appointed on January 19, 2009 as the founder and first Chief of NIA set up in the wake of 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes. A 1975 batch IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, Raju handled the case of the US citizen Lashkar-e-Toiba David Headley and led a team in breaking his estranged Moro-ccon wife Fauzia Outullah. "Raju was one of the finest officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police and he always remained an inspiration and a guide for his subordinates and colleagues," IGP Jammu Dilbagh Singh in a condolence message here today said. IGP Jammu Zone highlighted the qualities of head and heart of the officer. He said that he it was a pride for J&K Police that he was chosen to be the 1st Director General of National Investigation Agency of India, because of his investigation skills par excellence.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajindera in a message also condoled the sad demise of R V Raju, who worked in various challenging and crucial assignments both in the State and Centre including Commissioner of Vigilance J&K and the founder and first Director of NIA.
Remembering the departed soul the mourners while offering prayers said, "Sir, you will always live with us in our memories and your guidance will always leading us to the light of truth, justice and betterment of the society.' Prominent top police brass who paid tributes to departed soul included Youginder Kaul, IPS, IGP Home Gaurds/CD, J.P.Singh, IPS,DIG Jammu Range, Johni William, IPS DIG Armed Jammu, Surinder Gupta, IPS, DIG CID, , J.L.Sharma ,IPS, SSP CID, Prabhat Singh, SSP Jammu, Vijay Singh Samyal, Commandant IRP 10th Bn, Yashpaul Gupta, senior & prominent Citizens. Among the media persons who spoke on the occasion were Ashwani Kumar of Aaj Tak and Harbans Nago-K of JK Channel.

SRINAGAR, June 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over the demise of R. V. Raju a former IPS officer of 1975 batch of the Jammu and Kashmir Cadre. Describing Raju as a gentleman who led a principled life, the Chief Minister said he was an extremely competent police officer with an unblemished and meritorious career. The Chief Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Additional Director General of Police Security, Ram Lubhaya has been deputed to attend the funeral of Raju at Kochi. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has expressed grief over the demise of V Raju a former IPS officer of 1975 batch of the Jammu and Kashmir Cadre. According to the party spokesman, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said Raju was a sincere and a capable police officer ready for any challenges. He said it's a great loss and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family members and prayed for his eternal peace.
Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana has expressed his grief and sorrow on the sad demise of R.V Raju former Director General, NIA. Rana conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Raju and the family. In his condolence message from New Delhi, the Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar said R V Raju served the Jammu and Kashmir Police in different capacities and was one of the most honest and efficient officers and is still known for his professional efficiency and honesty in the state.
"He would be remembered for his commendable contribution in probing the high profile cases, including Rajiv Gandhi assassination, high jacking of Indian Airlines Plane in 1999 and Naval War Room Leak, he added.
