NC, Congress taking Coordination panel meetings casually | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21 : Coordination Committee, the highest panel of settling matters having differences between the two ruling allies NC and Congress of late has become a subject of mockery as both the alliance partners are seen taking this forum casually. While no concrete decision nor any unanimity has been seen even on smaller issues , the panel has seen non seriousness from the members on board from both parties lately. The meeting held on Wednesday at Srinagar in spite of having non controversial agenda could not see any unanimity on just two matters , not to speak of emerging with any final decision. Inconclusive is the catch word which panel takes pride in tagging with its meetings, Wednesday's meeting being no different . The Coordination panel interestingly has been set up on the instructions of none other than the Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi with expectations that both allies would sit and sort out differences, whatsoever on any issue and settle the issues in a cordial and amiable manner instead of stretching apart the strings of ties of coalition. But right from the beginning the panel has somewhat run into rough weathers be it on its formation in terms of members and representation from NC ( the high command both CM Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq Abdhulla having conveniently distanced themselves from the panel) , or discussing certain controversial issues on which Congress and NC have antagonistic views and opinion. While last year saw Coordination Committee seldom meeting or frequent postponement of scheduled meetings, the members either from NC or Congress have also been skipping the meetings. From NC it has been a casual approach even as there are two senior ministers on board, the third member representation has been on somewhat rotational basis as seen in initial meetings with Choudhary Ramzan and Mohammad Shafi Uri attending the panel meetings alternatively. However, this has been rectified to some extent this year as only Ramzan has been seen consistently in almost all the meetings , apart from Finance Minister AR Rather and Law minister Ali Mohammad Sagar . Even as there has been some consistency from Congress in respect of its members with Prof Saifu-Din Soz as its Chairman, the party is also being seen adopting flexible and non assertive approach even on smaller and insignificant issues which need not much of the deliberations or long discussions as seen to be often put off for next round of meetings. Though the agenda of Wednesday's meeting was holding of Block Development Council and Legislative Council elections following differences among the allies National Conference and Congress over the mode and manner of conduct and its timing, both the allies could not arrive at any consensus apparently as the meeting remained inconclusive . Pertinently, there were only two members including chairman from Congress in the meeting held yesterday. The meeting was held for over one hour. The panel would meet shortly and discuss the same issues. One wonders if the members, quite experienced and politically mature could not arrive at any conclusion in Wednesday's meeting, how can they do it so in three to four days. |
