Sports Council becomes transit camp for corrupt, failed engineers | Wattal out, Thussu in | | Abodh Sharma Jammu, June 21 : Appointment of Dilip Thussu, former Managing Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board and ex MD Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) as the secretary State Sports Council replacing Kiran Wattal has exposed Government's claims to develop sports in the state and made it evidently clear that the Sports Council has been reduced to a refuge for the corrupt engineers who have failed their own departments. Chief Minister who heads the Sports Council had himself come under sharp criticism following appointment of Kiran Wattal as secretary of the State Sports Council as he was one of the most heavily indicted engineers in cases of corruption and disproportionate assets and even his property was attached by the State Vigilance Organisation. He even lacked technical eligibility to become the secretary of the Council which is an elected post. The storm over his appointment had just settled that CM who chaired the meeting of the state Cabinet the previous day gave nod to the posting of another tainted engineer Dilip Thussu as the secretary of the State Sports Council indicating that it had reduced the top sports body of the state as a transit camp for the engineers who have failed their departments to carve huge fortune for themselves. Dilip Thussu, the controversial engineer has several cases against him in the State Vigilance Organisation in which serious allegations of financial bungling and extending undue favours to private contractors for pecuniary benefits have been raised against him. Some of the projects of high public interest and value in which he has been named are still pending. Thussu was the Managing Director of the J&K Housing Board before Wattal but was attached to GAD following complaints against him. Thussu, like Wattal is not the member of 29 member state sports council and technically cannot be its secretary. While in order to get Wattal into the Council, a member was coerced to resign, who faces casualty to accommodate another failed engineer as boss of the sports representative body headed by the chief minister himself, is yet to be seen. |
