Sheikh Nazir to fight for JK's sovereignty ! | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 21 : National Conference General Secretary, Sheikh Nazir today said that the party would continue to fight for sovereignty of the state. He was talking to a delegation of party workers at his residence here. However, the ailing Nazir contradicted himself by saying that Jammu Kashmir had acceded to the Indian Union on three components viz defense, foreign affairs and communication and India needs to fulfil its broken promises with the state. He also demanded restoration of pre-1953 position saying `autonomy is a legal document'. While NC is known for making contradictory statements, Sheikh Nazir's sovereignty statement evoked a sarcastic response from political circles. Sheikh Nazir is fully aware of the fact that the Constituent Assembly has ratified the accession. Can Sheikh Nazir challenge it? He also knows the Constituent Assembly was formed by Sher-e-Kashmir. NC workers who have no knowledge of history say the Constituent Assembly comprised of puppets. But Sheikh will refrain from such `blasphemous' statement for obvious reasons. Sheikh Nazir also knows that Sher-e-Kashmir conceded the autonomy demand in 1975 when his most trusted lieutenant, Mirza Muhammad afzal Beg signed the Indra-Abdullah Accord. And last but not the least, it was NC that fought Maharaja Hari Singh who wanted to keep Jammu Kashmir a sovereign state. Maharaja's worst enemies also admit this `harsh' reality. |
