Unlike J&K, Sikkim way ahead in reducing T&D losses | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21 : Chief minister, who holds the power ministry, in his attempt to justify his load shedding has put the blame on consumers.Reacting to criticism of the government on account of protest demonstrations over it, Omar Abdullah writing on twitter said:" “Load shedding is a reality” …Power in J&K is the second cheapest in the country after Sikkim. He also said, "start paying market price,"However, the point he missed in his argument is that AT&C losses in Sikkim are just 29 percent, while in the J&K this accounts for about 70 percent. The Chief Minister himself admitted this in his tweet. Sikkim, like J&K having huge power potential, has been consistently working on its reduction unlike J&K. In Sikkim these losses have come down from 57 percent in 2001-02 to just 29 percent in 2008-09 and there has been gradual decrease in it. But in J&K no such effort has been made, despite the best "intentions' of the CM. Another factor, where J&K losses against Sikkim, is on account of metering, one of the major requirement to assess the load and revenue generation. In Sikkim , 100 metering has been achieved but in J&K it's about 50 percent. More importantly while 70 percent metering has been achieved in Jammu, it's just 30 percent in Kashmir. The CM must put his house in order, before sermonizing on un-substantiated. Omar, who is now camping in Srinagar, should demonstrate the will of the government in reforming this sector but pushing for metering in Kashmir, rather than symbolic black-out of his residence during winters. He shouldn't divert public attention from the failures of the government and should tell people of his region of accepting the facts on face value rather than taking about 'Accession' or 'Autonomy" or 'Siachen' to keep his chair in comfortable zone by indulging in rehtorics |
