Ramban NH blocking: Police orders inquiry | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 22 : Police today ordered an inquiry into the incident of detention and thrashing of a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and blocking of busiest Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district. "A local BJP leader of Ramban was allegedly detained and beaten up by the police yesterday during a protest on the process of issuance of new ration cards by the government following which protestors also blocked the national highway," reliable sources here said. They said police ordered probe into the episode of beating the BJP leader besides blocking of national highway. "As Amarnath yatra is scheduled to begin from June 25, there are strict instructions to keep watch on the national highway and movement of vehicles," a senior police official here told UNI. He said blocking of national highway is not permitted as it leads to hours long traffic jams and inconvenience to the tourists and other passengers. "The police action was initiated only after the protestors blocked the national highway but we have ordered enquiry into entire episode," he added. "I had to reach Jammu to catch the train for Delhi but due to blocked road by some protestors, could not reach on time and missed it," Deepaknakr Sena tourist rued. He however, said people should not adopt such ways to lodge protest, which causes problem to others. Meanwhile, the market along the highway in Ramban district observed partiall bandh in protest. |
