Azad to visit Chenab region next week | After Mufti, Kamaal | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, June 22: Sensing the gravity of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Syed recent visit to the Chenab region, Union health Minister and former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad has plans of visiting the region next week.Azad's proposed visit has been perceived as a damage control exercise aimed at diluting Mufti's influence on the people. Mufti’s tour of the region also made National Conference to send their firebrand additional general, Dr Mustafa Kamaal secretary to the region. Kamaal surprisingly accused the Congress of harassing the NC workers thus adding to Azad's woes. Azad is also worried over pace of development in the region the brunt of which has been borne by the local Congress workers. Huge response to public rallies of Mufti Mohammad Syed and warning from Additional General Secretary of coalition Partner Mustafa Kamaal has shaken the Congress leadership of Chenab region. The infighting in Congress has left the party in no position to seek a berth in the cabinet. Pertinent to mention the region is unrepresented in the cabinet and is considered a strong bastion of Congress group led by Azad. According to the district office, Azad is scheduled to visit Kishtwar on June 26. This will be Azad's first visit to the district in four years. The news however has evoked enthusiasm amongst the workers who believe Azad will help solve problems faced by the district. A meeting chaired by MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori was held to finalize arrangements for Azad visit. While it could not be ascertained whether Azad will hold a public meeting or not, the issue of youth Congress elections is likely to be raised with him. |
