Strict measures for checking road accidents in J&K

Jammu, June 22 : To minimise road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir, Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon today directed police, transport and other departments concerned to synergise efforts to prevent mishaps.The loss of precious human lives is a big concern for the government, he said, adding that strategies adopted to reduce vehicular accidents need to be implemented strictly.Akhoon was speaking after launching "Road Safety Campaign" - a joint initiative by 12 Grenadiers of Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu Kashmir Traffic Police at Banihal, about 187 km from here.He said every effort was being taken to check accidents and directed the officers to ensure smooth and safe plying of vehicles especially on Banihal-Ramban stretch of the National Highway.
Akhoon said the Transport Department has been brought under the purview of J&K Public Service Guarantee Act to ensure timely delivery of services to people. He said the J&K Motor Vehicle Rules have also been amended to make penalty provisions more stringent to offenders.
