| BJP workers court arrest in Srinagar | | Registers protest against corruption, price hike | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 22: In a development that evoked massive attention, Bharataya Janata Party (BJP) workers courted arrest against dearness and corruption near Press Enclave in the summer capital today .
According to reports, BJP workers led by Sheila Handoo appeared in the Press Enclave and started raising slogans against the government. They registered strong protest against price hike in petrol, diesel and other essential commodities. They also accused the state government of patronizing `corrupt' elements.
The police swung into action and took the workers into custody.
Meanwhile, reports of protests by BJP workers were received from Budgam, and other places. However, no arrests were effected at other places.
Pertinent to mention, this is the first time when local BJP workers have come out openly in the public in the summer capital. Interestingly the BJP has a huge office at Rajbagh in the vicinity of the Hurriyat (M) headquarters.
