EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 23: Member of Parliament and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha national president Smriti Irani yesterday taunted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and asked him to use the modern information technology for mitigating problems being faced by "common man", instead of "improving his own image". She was here in Jammu to participate in "Jail Bharo Andolan" to register protest against price rise, corruption and black money. The BJP organized "Jail Bharo" programme across the country to expose the wrong doings of the Congress-led UPA Government.
Taunting Omar Abdullah, Smriti Irani said "it is unfortunate that the same Chief Minister, who comments on almost every development in India on twitter without losing even a single moment, has not uttered even a single word on the burning issues of 2G, CWG etc" and that "the Jammu and Kashmir under the so-called modern Twitter Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has shown least concern for even basic amenities to the people". To make her point, she said "while the BJP ruled state like Gujarat supply 24-hour regular supply of electricity, it is indeed unfortunate that the Chief Minister has failed to utilize the services of modern technology to ensure adequate infrastructure in the state for the benefit of the people."
One can understand her or the BJP's deep concern over the problems being faced by people across the country. One can also understand her when she accuses the Union Government of making the life of common man a veritable hell on earth. There is no doubt that the Congress-UPA Government has messed up things, given legitimacy to corruption or institutionalized corruption, ruined the country's economy, destroyed political institutions, communalized the society and polity, lowered the position of India in the eyes of the international community and made the life of common man very difficult. She did make a very valid point by reflecting on the anti-people policies of the Union Government.
Similarly, she hit the nail on the head when she took on and ridiculed the Chief Minister and asked him to make his stand public on the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam, multi-crore Common Wealth Games (CWG) scam and similar other scams, including the nearly 2 lakh crore coal scam in which the Prime Minister's Office is directly involved. What, however, she forgot to mention was that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been leading a government which has been adjudged as the second most corrupt state in India, a conclusion being challenged by many in the state. They say Jammu and Kashmir is not the second most corrupt state in India, but the most corrupt state in the country. It was the Transparency International India which has on occasions more than one dismissed Jammu and Kashmir the second most corrupt state in India. Hence, it would be too much expect that Omar Abdullah would ever tweet on 2G or CWG or multi-crore coal scam.
To tweet on these scams as well as the scam in which, according to the Team Anna, his father himself is involved would mean violation of coalition dharma. The Team Anna has identified 15 ministers in the Union Council of Ministers, including the Prime Minister, who, according to it, are directly or indirectly involved in the multi-crore scams. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is a responsible member of the UPA. He has no word in his dictionary for those in the UPA who have looted and plundered the Indian exchequer. In fact, he considers them clean and honest like him. It is a different story that a large number of ministers in his ministry, bureaucrats and others associated with his failed government are facing very serious corruption charges. In any case, Smriti has done well to expose the state government which has failed to deliver on any front.
