Jora to flag off first batch of Amarnath ji yatra today | DGP welcomes yatris, ensures fool proof security, logistic support | | SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, June 23: Come June and stage is set for the annual Amarnath yatra 2012 with all foolproof arrangements made by the authorities while the first batch of Amarnath pilgrims ready to be flagged off from Bhagwati Nagar - the Jammu base camp of Amarnath yatris on Sunday morning by Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora. "The first batch of yatris to be thousands is expected to reach Nunwan and Baltal base camps on Sunday evening and will leave for the yatra from the forward base camps on Monday, sources said. Police sources said, "As per data collected from Lakhanpur about 4099 yatris (3515 male, 1075 female, 315 children and 4 sadhus) in 299 vehicles crossed to Jammu for Amarnath ji Yatra today commencing from June 25. K Rajendra DGP, when contacted informed that adequate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of yatra. "I personally visited Pahalgam,Panjtirni and other spots to review security, he said further adding, "we are ready, provided whether God shower praises." , DGP Rajendra also welcomed the pilgrims assuring them for adequate security and other logistic support. Pertinent to mention here that besides police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has deployed about 5,000 personnel to ensure adequate security for a smooth yatra. "Around 18 CRPF companies have been deployed along the National Highway upto Banihal. "As many as 49 additional CRPF companies (each with 100 personnel) have been deployed for the security of Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir this year," a CRPF spokesman said. He said that additional companies have been mobilised from reserve CRPF forces in the state and these are other than those deployed forother security duties in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, SSP Traffic Manmohan Singh pin pointing the role of traffic police to ensure smooth traffic during Yatra period stated that around hundred additional traffic cops have been deployed for smooth vehicular movement from Jammu. Apart from various pilgrim friendly initiatives made by the state government, the Postal Department too has come forward to make the pilgrimage memorable by introducing 'My Stamp' services, that will enable the pilgrims to get their own photographs printed on the stamps, with the background of the snow-clad mountains. Governor, N N Vohra, who is also Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) will inaugurate a Yatri Post Office at Baltal on June 25. Further, in association with BSNL, the Yatri Post offices will provide SIM cards to the yatris for the journey period. This is the first time, the Post offices in Jammu and Kashmir are providing the SIM cards for mobile phones for the better connectivity within their own people.
