Manjeet urges empowerment of panchayats | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjeet Singh today urged the government to empower the Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir with the implementation of 73rd amendment in the State constitution. Manjeet Singh was addressing people during a meeting organized by the IYC in Vijaypur area of Samba district at village Tirlokpur of Dhamore Panchayat in which newly elected vice president of Vijaypur constituency Chander Shekhar Sharma was welcomed and honoured by the people. In this meet, senior Congress leader Manjeet Singh was the chief guest. "The Panchayati Raj amendment should be implemented in its real sense in the State which was the dream of the former Prime Minister of India Rajeev Gandhi," the senior Congress leader Manjeet Singh said. He said that the government has recently announced that it has given 14 departments under Panchayats but no powers have been given by the government to them, while appealing to give powers to the Panchayats. Meanwhile, the Congress leader condemned the local administration in Vijaypur for allegedly neglecting areas where supporters and workers of Congress party live. Those who attended the function include Sarpanch Vijaypur Panchayat Sham Lal Bhagat, Sarpanch Rajinderpura Panchyat Brij Pal Singh (Goggi), Sarpanch Dhamore Panchyat Sukjinder Singh (Polla), Naib Sarpanch and senior Congress leader Trith Ram Bhagat, Naib Sarpanch Dhamore Ajit Singh, State General Secretary IYC Rajan Sharma, Vijaypur Constituency Priesdent IYC S. Paramjeet Singh (Pamma), General Sectt. Vijaypur constituency IYC Nariender singh, Amit Sharma, Kamal Kishore and Murad Ali. |
