Cong could pay heavily on in-decision

Early Times Report

Jammu , June 24: A month after Congress leaders convention in Srinagar where party president Sonia Gandhi was authorisied to appoint new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, no decision has been taken.
Even after more than a month, the indecision on part of the party high command doesn't augur well for the party. The Congress has been reduced to playing the role of second fiddle in administrative scheme of things.
The party has been divested of its prestigious portfolio and its coalition partners (NC) has kept its promise of giving another to the party even after three-year of coalition government.
It's because of the growing resentment, the party workers as the convention suggested to come out of the coalition and go for fresh elections.
Sensing the mood at ground level, the party high command shouldn't have taken much time in announcing new PCC president. Prof Saif-ud-din Soz appeared to be possible choice and if party had decided to make another leader as president, it should have been just after the convention.
At present, the state unit of party doesn't have president. This doesn't go well in the interest of the party as
president is the face of the party and it becomes more important when party is running government with a coalition partners.
Such delay not only gives free hand to NC to run affairs of the State as per its own whims and fancies but it also gives an impression that N Delhi is more interested in keeping NC in good humor at the cost of its cadre.
Any further delay could cost party dearely as the government is coming under severe criticism especially on account of power crisis. The power crisis is more acute in Jammu, which is the base of party than in Kashmir.
The Congress had suffered badly in 2008 election not because of its follies but because of its coalition partner and same could be repeated in next election, it the party high command fails to read the ground realities and voice of its cadre
