| Labourers demand compensation from Foseco | | | JAMMU | FEB 1 “About a decade back, while working in a chemical factory 13 labourers had died out of 25 and rest are still suffering from lung diseases and the condition of three of them is critical but neither the company has paid any relief to the aggrieved nor the state Labour Commission has paid any heed to these aggrieved labourers” said Lalit Khajuria while addressing a press conference here today. He was speaking about the labourers, who had worked for Mumbai based company Greades Foseco which was established in 1983 at Dollian village in Bari Brahmana. However the company closed its gowdown and shut the establishment in the year 2002, he said and added that the sufferers were left high and dry with out any compensation to them or their family members, he said “Due to continuous inhalation of the chemical powder in the godowns, the laborers developed lung diseases due to which some lost their life and others are ailing till date” he said and added that the said company had employed the workers with out any registration or registering with ESI, which clearly reflects that the company defied the Labor Laws. “Despite repeated requests to the Labour Commission, it did not pay any heed to the demands of the aggrieved laborers for compensation or relief. The suffering laborers at the media conference also urged upon the government to intervene into the matter.
