Various Sikh organisations held a meeting under the banner of Guru Manyo Granth Society and expressed shock and grief over the loss of the shrine of one of the most revered Sufi Saint of the Kashmir valley.Speaking on the occasion Jasdeep Singh President of the Guru Manyo Granth Society said, "The people of Kashmir irrespective of their religious beliefs have revered the shrines and the places of worship of every community. The Sikh community in the Kashmir valley is shocked over the loss of the revered shrine of Dastgeer Sahib". Singh said that it is only in Kashmir where a famous Muslim Shrine stands near a historic Sikh Gurudwara and an ancient Hindu temple. "The history of Kashmir is witness to the religious pluralism of the Kashmir valley where for centuries different religions have existed together with peace and harmony." Singh said. The Sikh said that they stand with their Muslim brothers during this over of loss and also appeal the people to maintain calm. The society also condemned the preparations of the disaster management cell of Kashmir to fight any such disaster. "The incident of fire at Dastgeet Sahib has exposed the chinks in the preparedness of the disaster management cell which makes tall claims and all the preparedness to fight any disaster exists only on papers," Singh said. However the Society expressed satisfaction on the fact that the holy relics and other items of historical importance that rested in the shrine were saved from the fire. |
