State Vigilance Organization produced challan against Kowser Naqashbandi, former Tehsil Social Welfare Officer (TSWO),Tangmarg, in the Court of Special Judge Anti Corruption Kashmir for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.500..
Giving details of the case, a Vigilance spokesman said here today that on November 21,2005, one Mohammed. Abdullah Mir R/o Qazipura Tangmarg, lodged a written complaint with Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir, alleging therein that the accused, then posted as Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Tangmarg, demanded illegal gratification for release of Rs.21600 as scholarship sanctioned by the Central Government under National Foundation of Communal Harmony Scheme in favour of children of his deceased son, who was killed by militants in 1994.
The spokesman said that a Case FIR No. 34/2005 P/S VOK was registered and investigation taken up. In the course of investigation, the Vigilance team laid a successful trap, during which the accused Social Welfare Officer was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs.500. The tainted money was recovered from her possession in presence of independent witnesses.
After accord of sanction for prosecution by the Government, the challan of the case was produced in the Court of Special Judge Anti Corruption Kashmir and February 21 has been fixed as next date of hearing, the spokesman added.
