MP sabotaging vital tourism project in Kathua | | | ARUN TRISAL
Kathua , June 26: Traveler's mart near Lakhanpur, the entry point of the state which is a project of prestige and vital importance for the state is being sabotaged by the Congress MP from Udhampur Doda constituency, a local from Kathua while the district administration rather than discharging its duties in the right earnest is playing to the whim and fancies of the MP. Reports reveal that the MP in unholy nexus with the owners of 45 kanals of private land which is to be acquired for the project is creating stumbling blocks in the process of land acquisition even though the land owners have been paid compensation as per the norms. Reports also suggest that the MP is also using pressure tactics against the district administration not to acquire the land in question despite payment of compensation. The MP had taken a stand against land acquisition openly in the district development board meeting notwithstanding the importance of the prestigious project and with little regard to the fact that the compensation has already been paid to the land owners. The MLAs of district Kathua, barring Charanjeet Singh had recently written to the Minister for Tourism recently objecting to the uncalled for intervention of the MP. The MLAs has reportedly invited the attention of the Minister to the pressure tactics being used by the MP on the district administration from certain Ministers of the state government. It is pertinent to mention here that the state land (69 K 15 M) has been transferred to the Tourism Department which itself has 98 K 02 M vide order number Rev S/310 of 2007 dated 22/01/2007 and the private land acquired on the basis of the award issued by the Collector Land Acquisition Addl Dy Commissioner Kathua vide order no. DCK/ADCK/LA/2008-09/396-400 dated 10/01/2009 after payment of the compensation. Even after this, the district administration has failed to safe guard the larger interest of the public for the undue benefit of a few . The local leadership of Kathua has failed to raise a collective voice against promoting the interest of the local in tourism sector. Apart from Traveler's Mart, Macchedi is one other example of government's apathy. Macchedi is endowed by nature with natural beauty and it has the potential to be developed into a tourist hub. But thanks to the apathy of the state government, it is still a backward place with no metalled road connectivity.
