| Indicted in probe, former JU Registrar faces heat | | | early times report
Jammu, June 27:With Central University of Jammu is yet to start functioning on full throttle, opposition and dissatisfaction has started growing against those at the helm of affairs threatening to jeopardize the smooth working of university that came into being after lot of struggle.
Several student bodies have intensified their campaign against Dr. P S Pathania, the former Registrar of the University of Jammu, who was designated as Officer On Special Duty (OSD) in the Central University of Jammu.
Pathania particularly invited the wrath of the university based student bodies after his name figured in the report of the committee headed by Chief Secretary to probe into the bungling and misappropriation in the University of Jammu. While indicting him, the report has pointed out at an unsettled advance of Rs. Seven lakhs against his name. Insiders also reveal that Pathania has been hand in glove with the university works department which has emerged as hub of corruption and financial misappropriation. It is worth mentioning that Pathania continues to handle financial matters in CUJ despite him being named for financial irregularities.
"Why should such people, who have been indicted by high level probe committee be given positions of such responsibility" said Vikas Sharma, president of the national secular forum, a body of students scholars and young thinkers. "Pathania has committed financial bungling in several units of the university including Zorawar Singh auditorium, Academic Staff College and works department" he added, assuring to intensify campaign against him in coming days.
Earlier Pathania's appointment as Controller Examination in the University of Jammu was challenged by R L Sharma, another aspirant for the post who represented to the chancellor contesting his appointment on several grounds. However, Pathania managed an elevation as registrar in the JU and just before his retirement, managed another lucrative posting as OSD in the CUJ.
It is ironical that Pathania is deputising in the Central University of Jammu for the Vice Chancellor Dr. SS Bloeria, the former Chief Secretary of the state who is known for his integrity and unblemished career as top bureaucrat of the state.
