3 leaders in Azad camp appointed observers for HP polls | | | earlytimes report Jammu, June 27: Three senior leaders of Congress from J&K have been appointed as observers for the upcoming Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh who would constantly monitor party affairs and keep a close watch on the political developments in the state with respect to Congress prospects much ahead of the beginning of election process. Interestingly all the three leaders owe allegiance and are seen as loyalists of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Sources said the party high command has appointed ex minister and MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma , ex minister GA Mir and Shabir Dar as observers for Himachal Pradesh, an assignment considered to be crucial in terms of the role and duties they have been assigned for this prestigious Assembly polls. Sources said they would be required to be in constant touch with certain vital segments in the state, study the political arena and monitor the party activities during their stay in the state for coming months. The observers would also be asked to give their views and recommendations which would help high command finalise mandates to be given to its candidates in the elections. While appointment of observers is something in routine process connected with the polls, what remains to be important here with respect to three leaders from J&K is that all the three belong to one faction of the party, which is led by Ghulam Nabi Azad. This is being seen as one more development in favour of the faction as party circles suggest that Union Helath minister continues to call shots in matters of political assignments considered to be crucial for the party. Pertinently, Himachal Pradesh bracing itself for the crucial Assembly polls scheduled early next year, Congress has started preparations much ahead of polls even as the state's political atmosphere turned hot and somewhat unfavorable for the party in the backdrop of resignation of Virbhadra Singh on charges of corruption. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Himachal Pradesh for two day tour beginning tomorrow during which he will hold meetings with party leaders and workers.
