Delhi's 'spanner' on Azad shows after 'adverse reports' | NC, rival faction of Congress offended on 'unilateralism', coalition criticism | | early times report Jammu, June 27: Even as different theories are in circulation attributing the reasons for cancellation of scheduled road shows and rallies by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in Doda and Kishtwar districts, insiders have it to say that a section of ruling National Conference and his rival group too contributed their bit to thwart the pace of programmes as both have taken serious note of the way Azad went on all by himself choosing not only to ignore them but also in casting aspersions on coalition functioning. Sources said in the middle of the scheduled spree of shows loaded with political ambitions while New Delhi is learnt to have put a sudden spanner to halt them, New Delhi's 'direction' is reported to have come after National Conference and other faction of the Congress which remained completely sidelined and away from all functions which commenced from district Rajouri three days back, took all this in an offensive manner following which some 'adverse reports' were dashed to New Delhi , 10 Janpath in particular. Sources also said New Delhi has once again taken exception to the manner Azad has been attending such political shows without presence of PCC functionaries and leaders of the other camp, choosing to ignore the strict instructions on maintaining unity and united face of the party , something which has been already decided at the mega convention held recently at Srinagar. Consequent upon these developments, the observers say Azad and his group of loyalists will have to rethink and redraw their strategy and course of action vis-à-vis their space in state politics. Sources further said the road shows which were to be conducted in Doda , organized by his loyalists, the local MLA and former Minister Abdul Majid Wani having clout in the region being the key organizer, could not come through even though all preparations were in place. It was not merely on account of the less crowd or less number of people that rallies and shows had to be cancelled , said a senior leader , adding that these were seen by the rival group as also the ruling National Conference as Azad having trumpeted bugle for 2014, for which his ambitions are lately seen to getting 'obsessive' with his role in state politics. 'Road shows are normally seen to be a part of election campaigns and not in routine political programmes……the way it was organized unnerved the rivals and was even seen within the party as something unwarranted and uncalled for event', said an NC leader from the region. Even some of his staunch loyalists from Jammu felt that organizers had gone overboard , all for augmenting and pushing their own interests. "Being a stalwart, Azad should not have given nod for attending such shows…….", said the Congress leader adding that what further offended the NC in particular is the reiteration of criticism with sarcasm and comparing statistics by Azad that whatever commitments he had made with the people of Chenab Valley region have not been fulfilled by the present coalition.
