Curfew continues in parts of Srinagar to maintain peace | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 28 : There was still no respite to people in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), where residents alleged shortage of essentials because of curfew restrictions for the past three days. Official sources said the curfew restriction would be extended to other parts of the city, including historic Lal Chowk tomorrow when there is a call for 'Khanyar Challo'. Curfew was imposed on June 26 morning in these areas to maintain peace following tension after the 18th century revered shrine of Peer Dastgeer, Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani was gutted in a mysterious fire at Khanyar on June 25 morning. However, the District Magistrate (DM) Srinagar said restrictions under Section 144 CrPC had been imposed on the movement of public and transport in Jurisdiction of six police stations in the Srinagar City till further orders. Curfew has been imposed on June 26 morning to avoid any major clash after more than 50 persons, including security and police personnel, were injured the previous day. Repeated announcements were being made through public address system by the security forces and police in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), asking people to remain indoor. Today the restrictions were more strict as security forces and police personnel were not allowing anybody to come out of their homes. People of these areas alleged that they were facing shortage of essentials, including milk, bread, vegetables and other essentials. However, some people in the interior parts of curfew-bound areas said they could purchase vegetables only but there was no milk as all milkmen who come from the outskirts, were not allowed by the security forces. |
