With blame game organizers take media for a ride at Baba Chamliyal Mela | | | early times report Jammu, June 28: Lot of planning was highlighted by the District Administration Samba ahead of the annual Baba Chamliyal Mela but when the things came at hand to handle all went in haywire as once again media and the devotees were taken a ride. Infact the self claimed responsible district administration in Samba headed by Deputy Commissioner Mubarak Singh took media and almost lakhs of devotees for a ride on Thursday with their poor planning and lack of coordination on ground zero. Despite for last couple of days the officers of the district administration were sitting in their AC rooms and convened series of review meetings to ensure adequate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the mela. But on Thursday when their turn came to deliver goods they were found missing in action with things going out of control within the blame game- District administration blamed the Border Security Force (BSF) and vice versa. Pertinently the Mela at International Border (IB) in Ramgarh of Samba Sector is of great recognition and media local and national as well was invited to cover the traditional fair famous for cross border bonhomie between India and Pakistan. But the mismanagement and lack of coordination between the two hosts took the media persons on a ride. The media persons were asked to assemble at the Press Club Jammu on Thursday at 7.00 am, ironically but the sad part of the event started with no trace of transport for hours. As more and more media persons started trickling in to accompany the Press Party the officers of the State Information Department had to cut a sorry figure as the bus meant to ferry the journalists turned to be mirage for all waiting at the venue. After over 2 hour long wait the information department officials in association with BSF authorities manage a BSF School Bus for the media persons. The ordeal for media persons yet have to come as they faced the same trauma while returning from the Chamilyal. The media team witnessed big drama as BSF officials refused to provide vehicle for the return journey and directed the media persons to get in touch with the Samba district authorities as they were asked only to serve Lunch. According to them they had already obliged the state government officials in the morning by hurriedly arranging a school bus. When the entire media contingent called on the nodal officer , BS Jamwal, stationed in the Control Room of the shrine he feigned ignorance about the entire episode. In short, he claimed he was not aware whether transport facility was to be made available for the media persons. He also refused to identify the authority responsible for the goof up in the presence of senior BSF officer. It was again the senior BSF Officer came to their rescue instead of the Samba district authorities who had left them stranded. The senior BSF officer once again took the initiative of arranging transport facility but when BSF officer also failed to provide vehicle he pacified local district authorities to spare their official LMV’s for transporting media persons to Jammu. Pushed to the wall the senior district authorities were left with no choice but to spare their official vehicles to transport media. On the other hand large number of devotees and stall owners complained that the district administration had failed to make adequate arrangements for the devotees.
