Killing innocents is a heinous crime, Human Rights Commission to be strengthened: Azad

Jammu, February 1
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that State Human Rights Commission would be strengthened and made more effective. He said all its recommendations with regard to upholding human rights would be implemented.
Replying special discussion in Legislative Council regarding reported killing of Mr. Abdul Rehman Padder S/O Ghulam Rasool Padder of Larnoo Kokernag by SOG in alleged fake encounter, Chief Minister reiterated government’s firm resolve to deal with iron hand those cops responsible for killing of innocents just for getting promotions or rewards.
He said innocent killings for rewards or promotions are heinous crime and those responsible for it would be punished as murderers. Giving details of the case, Chief Minister said action taken against the main accused in the case itself clearly indicates government’s sincere intention to book the culprits and take the case to a logical end.
Mr. Azad said Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and he himself have repeatedly announced government’s will to protect human rights, as such, any incident of this kind puts both central and state governments’ credibility at stake. He said that government would take every step to uphold its credibility and give loud message to those involved in heinous crime of liquidating innocent poor citizens just for receiving rewards and promotions having the wrong notion that nobody is going to raise finger against them. “We will book such culprits and bring them to law for the punishment they deserve”, Chief Minister announced amidst applause.
He declared that though he has already announced a judicial probe by a High Court judge in the matter in a time-bound period of three months, yet the investigation already initiated would be carried on so that no loophole is allowed to creep in and mar the investigation leading to the real culprit. He said the investigation team lead by DIG Mr. Farooq Ahmed would continue to collect evidences and carry forward the investigation till judicial probe is set in place.
