| Railway tenders: Legislators allege discrimination with Jammu again | | | Jammu, Feb 1 Showcasing yet another example of regional bias with the Jammu region, young turks from Jammu region comprising BJP legislator Jugal Kishore, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Faqir Nath of Panthers party, Ashwani Sharma of JSM today raised the issue of tender notices issued by a railway construction company, which had disallowed contractors from Jammu region to participate in the tendering process. Flashing tender notices, the legislators demanded that state government should take note of the issue to remove the anomaly in the tender notice. Other members including HarshDev Singh of Panthers Party and Mohd Yusuf Tarigami of CPI (M) raised their concern over the issue and demanded statement from the state government. Harsh Dev Singh said that the state government is talking of issuing global tenders but one region in the state is deprived of taking part in tendering process. Taking note of the serious matter highlighted by the legislators, Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma gave an assurance admitting that such a condition should not have been there. He said the state government has taken note of the issue and the concerned authorities would be apprised of the matter in order to sort out the issue. Sharma said, since state consists of three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and is a one unit the said railway company should not have placed such a condition in the tender. He assured the members in the house that the matter would be brought in to the notice of the chief minister. He also assured the house that companies, private or government should not put restrictions on contractors from one region.
