Jammu's population is more as it has more households

JAMMU, June 30: Kashmiri leadership consistently says that population of the Valley is more as compared to Jammu Pradesh and that's the reason Kashmir returns more members to the assembly. Theirs is a wrong assertion. Population of Jammu Pradesh was always more as compared to Kashmir. Look at the census reports of 1891, 1901, 1911, 1921, 1931 and 1941 and see for yourself that Jammu's population was always more than Kashmir.
The number of voters in Jammu Pradesh was also always more as compared to Kashmir till 2001. Look at the figures officially provided by the state's Chief Electoral Officer and you will agree that Kashmir was inferior to Jammu Pradesh in terms of voters. And, remember, more the number of voters, more the population. This is universally accepted. It is New Delhi that has hit Jammu Pradesh below the belt in order to keep Kashmiri leadership on its right side. Even BJP veteran and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani had sided with Kashmir when he in response to Prof Chaman Lal Gupta's question in the Lok Sabha defended the census authorities and asserted that the 2001 census exercise in Kashmir was free and fair. The BJP leadership and the Congress leaders are always on the same page when it comes to the privileged, pampered and appeased Kashmir Valley. That the population of Jammu Pradesh is more as compared to Kashmir can be seen from the fact that out of a total of 20,15,088 household in the entire state, the number of households, as per the 2011 census, in Kashmir province comprising 12 districts, including Leh and Kargil, is 9,93,844. As for Jammu Pradesh comprising 10 districts, the number of households in this neglected part of the state is 10,21,244. In other words, Jammu Pradesh has 27,400 more households as compared to Kashmir province, which consists of Kashmir and the trans-Himalayan Ladakh. As per the 2011 census, 17,53,201 out of 20,15,088 households in the state have the facility of electricity. In other words, 87 per cent of the households in the state have the facility of electricity. It is obvious that the number of electric connections in Jammu Pradesh is also more as compared to Kashmir.
Exclude the number of households in the cold-desert Ladakh from the total number of Kashmir province's households in order to reach the right conclusion or to find what exactly is the population of Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu Pradesh. It is for the political parties, which are active in Jammu Pradesh, to force the concerned authorities to undertake another census operation in the state so that it is established that Kashmir is inferior to Jammu province not only in terms of households, electric connections, voters, but also in terms of population.
