NBCC, ERA works: Mayhem in Janipur, traffic in mess | Fresh 'instructions' from govt far fetched …..? | | early times report Jammu, July 2: It is one more 'high level' meeting directing NBCC and ERA to complete development works within stipulated time frame, something which sounds like a rhetoric now in the wake of dilapidation spread all around, Janipur and New Plot area at present being at the receiving end of perpetual miseries inflicted in the name of development. With concerned agencies still confused and not clear about the functional aspects of the mega project of Sewerage Treatment Plant, one wonders how long people of Jammu will have to crumble under the burden of digging and dangle on wide mouthed , open potholes. Even as the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand exhorted upon executing agencies to work in close coordination and redouble efforts to complete the sewer laying works for the Sewerage Treatment Plant in Jammu city, all these instructions and directions seem to be a far fetched and a far cry in terms of these being followed by the concerned agencies. Commoners who are bearing the brunt of unprecedented sufferings decipher these as either the concerned ministry making these statements for the sake of it or these falling on deaf ears of authorities at the helm. The reason is that there is no change, whatsoever, in terms of either expediting the work or sticking to deadlines by any of the agencies involved in this so called ambitious project. Last month it was the vital link of BC Road which carries the heavy traffic of city as well as the National Highway and now for the last over one week it is the Janipur and New Plot area which is witnessing complete mayhem and anarchic scenes particularly during heavy traffic movement in peak hours. There is no end to onslaught of digging, which may be vital for laying sewers but no immediate retrieval steps that could the movement of traffic. Vehicles passing through the stretches dug up deep by giant JBCC machinery end up in messy congestion which takes hours to decongest , all by themselves as there are no traffic cops who could provide some direction to maddening rush of drivers, seen in a hurry to overtake each other almost blindly. Worse, the plight is compounded by the accumulation of dug up material and debris which remains scattered and hampers the movement of vehicles. The direction coming none other than the Deputy Chief Minister Tarachand on this aspect wherein he has asked the agencies that part from adhering work schedules strictly , it should be ensured that those sites where work has been completed debris should be immediately cleared, to avoid any undue inconvenience to the common public, is a much needed step but only if the authorities follow it in full spirit.
