Dachigam park closed for tourists from today | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 3 : After reports of disturbance of wildlife inside Dachigam Sanctuary due to heavy rush of tourists inside the park, authorities have decided to close the park for general public from July 4, sources told . They said on an average 2000 people used to visit the Sanctuary every day from the last few months after the authorities relaxed the formalities for obtaining entry passes to visit the Park. "The heavy rush of tourists had disturbed the ecological balance of the Park and there was apprehension that animals might run away from the park due to increasing human interference. It is breeding season for Hangul and human interference could prove detrimental," sources told KNS. Wildlife Warden Dachigam Mohammad Sadiq confirmed to KNS that the Park will be closed for general public from July 4. "It is fawning period for Kashmiri stag (Hangul) and human interference can have impact on it. Besides heavy rush inside the park could disturb the ecological balance of the Sanctuary," he added. Sadiq said that Black Bear and Leopard inside the Park can turn violent due to the human interference. "Till further orders the Park has been closed. We appeal the people to cooperate with us," he added. Sources told KNS that entry passes for Dachigam were being issued by Chief Wildlife Warden till last year. "However, this year the rules were relaxes due to which rush of tourists increased," they added. Sources said the leftover food by the tourists has also attracted dogs inside the park. "People who visit the park leftover leave foodstuff inside the Sanctuary which attracts dogs. The dog population has increased inside the park," they added. A senior official of the department told that Wildlife higher ups haven't been able to maintain the ecological balance inside the Sanctuary. "They (authorities) aren't able to maintain the rush inside the Park due to which the wild animals are suffering. Manzoor Ahmad Tak who was given charge of Regional Director Wildlife a few months back is overburdened as he is also holding the post of Joint Director Soil Conservation Kashmir. While several officers in the Forest are without any assignments blue eyed officers like Tak have been given multiple assignments," he added. |
