Kashmir was abode of Hindus less than 800 years ago | Geelani Crossing the Line | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 3: Kashmir was all Hindu less than 800 years ago. It was the seat and centre of Indian civilization. It was, and continues to be, the abode of Hindu Gods and Goddesses like Lord Shiva, Mata Keer Bhawani and Mata Jayestha Devi. What happened in Kashmir during the past 800 years is history and this period can be described as a dark chapter in the otherwise glorious history of Kashmir. It was this period which witnessed exodus after exodus of Hindus from the land of Vitasta and the process of forced migration reached its culmination in early 1990, when all, barring a few hundred Kashmiri Hindu families, left their homes and hearths to become refugees in their own motherland. Right now the number of Kashmiri Hindus in the Valley is not even 3000. It is different that there are people who still term Kashmir as an oasis of peace and communal amity. Pro-Pakistani hardcore terrorist Syed Ali Shah Geelani yesterday accused the Government of India of "hatching a dangerous plan to settle people from rightwing Hindu groups through settlement colonies in Kashmir to trigger a civil war here". "We have learnt from our reliable source that Indian policy makers are hatching dangerous conspiracy to settle outsiders, especially people from RSS and Sangh Parivaar, through the migrant KP settlement colonies in the Valley to change its demography," Geelani said while talking to reporters at his Hyderpora residence. He did not stop just there. He went on to say that "the policy, which is the brain child of Mossad, is being carried out on the pattern of settling of Jews by Israel in Palestinian territories". "As a special arrangement, Director Tourism, who is going to travel to Israel, will allow Israelis to visit Kashmir under the garb of tourists to work on Indian policies to change demography in the Valley," he also said, adding that "Israel and its spy agency, Mossad, have always been anti-Muslims" and that "Israel is lending support to India to carry out this 'dangerous' plan in Kashmir". What made Geelani to spit venom on India, Hindus and organizations like RSS was the move of the authorities to set up in Kashmir colonies exclusively for the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus. Opposing the construction of separate colonies for the displaced and persecuted Kashmiri Hindus, Geelani said: "Pandits are our brothers and important part of our society. We welcome their return and assure them that they won't face any threat from the majority community. We have long history of brotherhood and communal harmony not only with Pandits but Sikhs and Christians as well…KPs should return and must rehabilitate in their original places, where they used to live before migrating to Jammu and other places. They should not forget that Muslims have served them during Dogra rule. If they have sold their land and houses, government can support them financially to reconstruct their houses in the original localities…India, which is spending huge money on procuring weapons and 'military occupation' of Kashmir, could provide more financial support to the migrant KPs for their rehabilitation in their ancestral places". He rejected out-of-hand the idea of separate colonies being set up in Kashmir and said, "We strongly reject the establishment of separate zones for them within the Valley". "These colonies are aimed to giving special status to minority community and treat majority community as third class citizens," he also said. Interestingly, Geelani also appealed to the displaced Kashmiri Hindus to "reject the government offer of living in separate colonies" and urged them to "put up in the colonies, which are inhabited by Muslims". Besides, he also used the opportunity to attack New Delhi. He said "New Delhi is looting natural resources of the state" and warned that he will "launch a Valley-wide agitation if the government fails to prevent loot of Jammu & Kashmir's resources". Who is this Geelani? Who has given him the authority to speak on behalf of Kashmiri Hindus, who are the original inhabitants of Kashmir and represent the over 5000-year-old Indian civilization? Who is he to tell anybody to settle or not to settle in Kashmir? Any Indian, be he a Hindu or a Muslim or a Sikh or a Christian, has every right to settle in Kashmir as any Kashmiri Muslim has the right to settle anywhere in the country? RSS and RSS followers are Indians. RSS can set up its branches in Kashmir. It must. Similarly, the RSS followers can settle in Kashmir. They must. Gelani is nobody to question their settlement. He is not a freedom fighter. He is a rank Pakistani and Pakistanis have no place whatsoever anywhere in the Kashmir Valley. Their place is either in Pakistan or in an ancient jail. Geelani is no problem. The problem is the state, which has been watching the anti-India and anti-Hindus dramas being enacted by Geelani and others of his ilk as a mute spectator. Had Geelani spoken against any Pakistani or the Pakistani state while in Pakistan, he would have been liquidated in no time. But here is a state where we have government which salutes the likes of Geelani saying peace prevails in the Valley because the Geelanis preached peace after the unfortunate incident of gutting of Peer Dastgeer Sahib Shrine. It is, however, a good development that a number of displaced Kashmiri Hindus today lambasted Geelani for what he said yesterday. It is clear that the displaced Kashmiri Hindus would take up this issue in a big way and expose Geelani and his supporters who have been trying to communalize everything in Kashmir with the help of certain elements in the establishment.
