Traffic signals in Jammu by Dec 2012 | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 3: Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon convened a meeting of officers of Motor Vehicle Department, Transport, Traffic, State Motor Garages, Mechanical Wing to review the overall functioning of these departments here this morning. During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on implementation of decisions taken in previous meetings for effective functioning of these departments. The Minister informed that the Regional Transport Offices and almost all the ARTO offices were made fully computerized and functional to ensure added accountability and transparency. The issues related to entry tax were also came under consideration. The Minister informed the meeting that for construction of fully equipped training institute in Jammu, the instructions have issued to Deputy Commissioner and RTO Jammu to identify a suitable land for the construction of training institute for which the funds would be allotted by Government of India. The Minister said that several complaints have been received so far from the people regarding various drawbacks in implementation of schemes adding that "we are trying hard to redress all the grievances of people on priority to ensure transparency and accountability in the department" . Briefing about the installation of traffic signals in the state, the Minister informed that the department have identified suitable places for instalment of traffic signals. He informed that in Kashmir we have indentified more than 30 places where these signals were installed to regulate traffic while in Jammu these traffic signals would be installed by the end of this year. . Akhoon also stressed the need to streamline the traffic system and other essentials during the Amarnath Ji yatra so that the yatries do not face any inconvenience. Managing Director SRTC informed the Minister that adequate number of buses are being provided to the devotees of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra for smooth conduct of yatra. The minister directed the Transport and Traffic department to ensure better regulation of traffic on the major routes of yatra to avoid logjams. Deputy Director State Motor Garages apprised the Minister that last year a revenue of Rs. 5.96 lakh was realized and this year a revenue of Rs. 22 lakh has been realized through Car Washing machine installed at State Motor Garages. He also informed that 250 vehicles were repaired during the last year and 52 vehicles were repaired upto ending June this year. He said that the SMG would be fully equipped with latest machinery for providing better services. Transport Commissioner highlighted the achievements of MVD and also flagged off certain issues in the meeting pertaining to computerization, vehicle fitness etc. Among other, Commissioner Secretary, Transport Department, SSP Traffic, S. Manmohan Singh, RTO Jammu, Verinder Slathia, RTO, Kathua, Mr. Shiv Gupta, ARTOs of Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Deputy Director Information, Deputy Director State Motor Garages and other senior functionaries of concerned departments also attended the meeting. |
