Adbee Markaz Kamraz may play mischief in Poonch
"Bridging gap between Kashmiri-speaking people"
7/3/2012 11:56:08 PM
NEHA
JAMMU, July 3: As if the evil-intentioned interference of Kashmiri leadership in the Poonch-Rajouri belt was not enough to create doubts in the minds of the people of Jammu Pradesh, Kashmir-based Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK), a conglomerate of nearly two dozen so-called literary and cultural organizations, held its 33rd annual conference in Poonch on July 2, which was attended by over 200 persons, including a NC minister, NC MLA and Congress MLC, besides information secretary, Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir. It was for the first time that the AMK organized its annual conference in Jammu region. To say this is not to suggest that the AMK cannot hold its conference in Jammu Pradesh. This is not a problem. The problem is who is controlling this organization. That's the problem. There are persons in this organization whose credentials are clearly doubtful.
Take, for, instance the case of the AMK secretary. The secretary of the AMK is person who constantly flirts with those seeking greater autonomy and self-rule for Jammu & Kashmir. He is one of a very few Kashmiris who is always conspicuous by his presence in anti-India seminars on Kashmir.
What was the composition and complexion of this so-called AMK? The followers of a particular religious sect dominated this annual conference. There was hardly any Kashmiri Hindu or Kashmiri Sikh. It is extremely doubtful if the organizers of this conference had invited any Kashmiri Hindu or Kashmiri Sikh. If at all there was any Kashmiri Hindu or Kashmiri Sikh present in the conference, the organizers did not think it proper to include his name in the press release issued yesterday - press release which was published prominently by a particular local daily for obvious reasons.
It is true that many speakers talked about Kashmiri language and demanded for this language status of "classical language". But it is also true that the conference was a concerted attempt on the part of the organizers, all from Kashmir, to bring the Kashmiris inhabiting the Poonch-Rajouri belt, on one platform. It is hardly necessary to catalogue here the aims and objectives of those who decided to hold the annual conference outside the Kashmir Valley. For, the fact that the secretary of the AMK is known for sectarian approach to the issues facing the state does help clinch the whole debate and conclude that the intentions of the organizers were not really pious. His statements that "the biggest happiness is that delegation took Mughal road route to reach the historic Poonch town, which has been a witness to many historical events" and that "this has indeed been an endeavor of AMK to organize and hold events and conferences in Jammu region with substantial Kashmiri speaking population" should indicate many things, including the move of the organizers of the conference to establish a close rapport with the Kashmiri-speaking people outside the Kashmir Valley and induce the Muslims of Jammu Pradesh to come closer to the Kashmiri Muslims. His intervention, in addition, served to create an impression that while the entire population of Kashmir is homogeneous culturally, socially and linguistically, Jammu Pradesh consists of regions and sub-regions where people speak different languages. Remember, almost 40 per cent people in Kashmir are non-Kashmiris and they do not speak Kashmiri. They speak their languages, including Gojari, Pathowari, Dard and Balti. It is important to note that the people of POJK, like the people of Poonch-Rajouri belt, are non- Kashmiri. They do not speak Kashmiri at all. In fact, this language is alien to them.
MLA Poonch Haveli, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, who was a special guest, also spoke on the occasion. He reportedly termed as a "historical event" the journey of delegates through Mughal. "I think the real purpose of opening Mughal road has been served by having such a big conference here at Poonch. I would wish that another annual conference of AMK is held at Muzaffarabad so that an air of love and affection blows through the region on both sides" he said, adding that "Poonch was once a state within the state. Since 1947, this region has borne the brunt of many wars. But today's conference is the realization of a dream when all the landmines and bombs which have scared this region are cleared off".
What the secretary and the NC MLA, plus the suggestion that similar conference should also be held in POJK, should clear many doubts and establish that the main objective of some of the organizers of the annual conference in Poonch was not only to bring the Kashmiri-speaking people inhabiting different parts of the state on one platform but also to cultivate the Gojari and Pahari (read Pathowari)-speaking people who constitute a majority in the area and have been seeking empowerment under the Indian Constitution. And, by Kashmiri-speaking people they meant the followers of a particular religion. They did not mean Kashmiri Hindus and Kashmiri Sikhs, as they do not fit in their scheme of things. (Concluded)
