| It's nothing but 'monkey business' at GMCH | | | Mishu Gupta Jammu, July 3: Monkey menace continues to grip the premier health institute of Jammu region .i.e. Govt Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) Jammu with many cases of monkey bites reported from inside and outside the hospital, the things yet have not been mended properly till date. In a bizarre case today a monkey scaring the patient and attendants occupied a bed in Hospital that too in the emergency ward of the Government Medical College Jammu, making the tall claims of authorities about security of patients to go in air. "I came to get my child examined, but it is terrifying when one notices a monkey lying on the bed next to your bed while four-five stray dogs are roaming outside the emergency ward virtually making it hard to digest," lamented a visitor. Another decried, "Nobody from administration is around, dogs and monkeys are everywhere. My relative got fruits for the patient, but the monkey snatched it. The monkey probably sneaked in to avoid the heat and occupied the hospital for more than three hours before they were chased away by the police, hospital staff and attendants. Not only the monkey but the canine too had their day in the GMC Jammu. They welcome the visitors not only on the threshold of Emergency at GMC Jammu but also in the Nescafe canteen and the back yards of the hospital. At times these stray animals could even be seen occupying the corridors of hospital. The doctor, who did not wish to be named said, "One day I was leaving the hospital at around 7.30 AM while I was just passing besides the Chopra Nursing Home, a group of monkeys surrounded me. The attack was completely unprovoked and I was snatched away off my pack of biscuits, though I was unhurt but it was still very painful for me," the doctor said. "The problem infact is getting out of hand," another medico added saying that authorities need to tackle it initially and even now before it is too late.
