Return Of Kashmiri Hindus CM yet again accords legitimacy to politics, Geelani-style | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has done well to term as "fiction" and "imagination" the allegations of Hurriyat Conference (G) chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani about settling RSS and Sangh Parivar members in the Valley in the garb of return of internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus to their original habitat, Kashmir Valley. "Glad to see SASG's (Syed Ali Shah Geelani) imagination and ability to create fiction has not dulled with age," Omar Abdullah yesterday wrote on the micro-blogging site Twitter in response to the Hurriyat leader's allegations. Geelani had at a press conference on Monday said that the government was hatching a dangerous conspiracy to settle RSS and Sangh Parivar members in the Valley under the guise of return of Kashmiri Hindu refugees in order to change the demographic profile of Kashmir. "Delhi has devised a dangerous plan to trigger civil war and change demographic ratio of Muslims in Kashmir under the garb of return of Kashmiri Pandits," Geelani had said. He had also said that he was not opposed to their return, but what he was opposed to was the fact that they would be settled in settlements created exclusively from them in the Valley. His suggestion was that those who wish to return to the Valley have to live in the localities they left in early 1990. He had not reflected on the causes which led to their exodus. Besides, he had advised the displaced Kashmiri Hindus not to "fall prey to the conspiracy" because the government is contemplating settlement of non-locals in Kashmir under the garb of their return to the Valley. Geelani did cross the line when he spit venom on India and imposed conditions on the displaced Kashmiri Hindus desirous of returning to their land of birth. He should have been booked and sent to jail then and there for his outrageous remarks, as also for his hatred and contempt for non-locals, but it did not happen. On the contrary, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked Geelani to explain his stand on the return of Kashmiri Hindus. "If he wants to oppose Pandits' return, he should say so," the Chief Minister tweeted. In other words, he left everything, including the return of Kashmiri Hindus to the Valley, to the care of Geelani. To be more precise, by asking Geelani as to what was his stand on the return of the displaced Kashmiri Hindus, the Chief Minister simply gave legitimacy to the politics, Geelani-style. Earlier, the Chief Minister had placed on record his gratitude to the Kashmiri terrorists and extremists for helping his government in maintaining peace in the Valley after the gutting of Peer Dastgeer Sahib Shrine in the Khanyar area of Srinagar, thus suggesting that his government was just incompetent to maintain peace and that these terrorists and extremists were the chief determinants in the Kashmir Valley. How to explain the politics, Geelani-type to which the Chief Minister attaches utmost importance without saying so? It's very simple to explain. Geelani-type politics means reign of senseless brutalities against the non-Muslim minorities, disrespect to those who do not belong to the religious sect to which he belongs, attack on Indian sovereignty and symbols of Indian civilization, vilification campaign against the Indian Army and paramilitary forces, unflinching support to the Pakistani cause in Kashmir and so on. There is no doubt whatsoever that it was the likes of Geelanis who have played havoc with Kashmir. Again, there is no doubt whatever that the likes of Geelanis are calling the shots because we have at the helm of affairs those persons who in their heart of hearts approve of the politics, Geelani-style. It's no wonder then that many people allege that there is some sort of understanding between the likes of Geelanis and some of those at the helm of affairs and that they are working as per a plan evolved to achieve the ultimate objective: Separation from India or another communal partition of the country. If Chief Minister Omar Abdullah really wishes that the people do not doubt his credentials, he has no other option but to initiate legal proceeding against Geelani and others of his ilk. Not to do so would simply mean that he doesn't really hate the politics, Geelani-style. The ball is in his court. |
