Jammu petrol pumps go dry as oil tankers strike continue | | | early times report Jammu, July 4: The petrol pumps in this winter capital of the state has gone dry due to an indefinite strike of Jammu and Kashmir Oil Tankers Association. The oil tankers across the state on Monday went on an indefinite strike demanding action against those involved in the suspicious death of a tanker driver in Kashmir Valley. Most of the filling stations in Jammu City are facing petrol and diesel shortage due to the strike. People were standing in long queues at the filling stations to get the petrol and diesel. The talks between the government and Oil Tankers Association are in progress while no announcement has been made so far. The strike call was given yesterday by the Oil Tankers Association after a throat slit body of Akshay Kumar was found buried in Qazigund area, about 90 km south of Srinagar on June 30. The tanker drivers were demanding compensation to the family of the killed driver and security for the drivers going to the Valley. There are 1,760 oil tankers in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, about 1,000 ply daily, carrying petrol, diesel and kerosene to different parts of the state.
