Tension grips Malothi following land "dispute" between two communities

early times report
JAMMU, July 4: Tension today gripped Malothi in Bhaderwah tehsil of Doda following a land dispute between two communities.
Police sources said a particular community raised a concrete pillar while constructing the jamia masjid at Malothi.
Members of another community, who live next to the mosque, however, objected to the construction of the pillar, saying it was being raised in their land. This led to a tension between the two sides, the sources added.
Reached for his comments, deputy commissioner, Doda, Farooq Ahmad Khan said following objection by the family, that lives next to the mosque, the measurement of the land was got done with the help of revenue authorities.
After measurement, it was found that the pillar was being raised in the family's land. Upon this, it was agreed by the other side that it would demolish the pillar, he informed.
However, instead of waiting for the pillar to be demolished by those who had raised it, the family itself broke it, the DC said, adding that this led to a minor tension between the two sides.
It was not at all a big issue as the matter had been sorted out, Khan said and added that some officers of the district administration would also visit Malothi tomorrow to speak to the two sides.
Sources, however, said the pillar was broken by the women of the family. Women from the other side had also come out of their houses in protest, leading to heated exchanges between them.
