Chakan Da Bagh Cross LOC traders allege discrimination
7/5/2012 10:21:00 PM
SALIL RAINA

Poonch, July 5. Raising their concern over some vested interests trying to create deliberate attempts to give a crushing blow to trade on Chakan Da Bagh Route, Cross LOC traders of Poonch today warned the authorities not to fall prey to such tactics of some vested interests who are hell bent to disturb the trade.
They alleged that the authorities at Chakan Da Badh seized some trucks from POK, which were carrying Almonds to this side on the plea that these almonds are of California breed as Traders from Punjab has lodged writ petition in Hon'ble Court that there is no provision of third party interference in trade as the almonds which are being traded from Chakan Da Bagh route and Slamabad Chakoti route are of California breed and this causes Rs 500 crores loss annually to India.
Traders alleged that when the truck were sized by authorities at Slamabad Chakoti route, they immediately took the sample to a local Uri bazaar and verified that these almonds are of local made in POK and the same trucks were later released from Slamabad Chakoti route, but why this step motherly treatment with Traders of Chakan da Bagh route.
When contacted, TFO Rajan Baskhi said that, "On the basis of writ petition field by Punjab Traders, we have received a communication from higher authorities to seize the truck carrying almonds and send the sample to Sher-e Kashmir University Jammu for testing. We have sent the sample and after getting the report, we will release the trucks" added further that "We are handling this matter as per the directions of higher authorities and looking into the matters seriously and hopeful that the trucks will be released after getting the report" Meanwhile, Pawan Anand, President Cross LOC Traders Association, said that "There are some vested interests who are trying the create more and more problems on this route and we pray to higher authorities to look into the matters seriously and take action against those who are trying to disturb the trade on this route" added further that "its a common sense that writ petition and direction are two different things and why authorities took action against truck on the basis of writ petition as there was no direction to seize the trucks from Hon'ble Court. It also indicates that some officials may hand in glove with those who are keen to create such situations to disturb the trade on Chakan Da Bagh route". He asks the authorities to desists from such practices and ensure their full cooperation for smooth trade.
