Tourists, locals slam Jamaat-e-Islami over dress code diktat in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 5 : At a time when tourism has been peaking again in Jammu and Kashmir, separatists' dress code diktat for tourists has outraged not only locals in the valley but also visitors to the state. After separatist group Jamaat-e-Islami issued a dress code advisory for tourists in the valley forbidding sho1rt or tight clothes and asking the tourism department to enforce the rule, it has been facing criticism from the people of the state. The Jamaat has even warned of "consequences" and an "angry reaction" if tourists continued to wear "skimpy clothes".The fatwa elicited mix response from the people of the valley.
While most of the people Headlines Today spoke to criticised it, there were some who even appreciated the Jamaat's stand.Member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Kamal Farooqi, said Jamaat-e-Islami should exercise caution while making such statements.
