Divisional Forum gives award against mobile company for deficient services

In an important decision, Divisional Consumers Protection Forum, Srinagar has awarded compensation to the tune of Rs.30 thousand in favour of one Arifa Jan resident of Bandipora Baramulla for the mental agony and economic loss suffered by her due to the disconnection of mobile by Airtel. Divisional Consumer Forum headed by President, Mr. Rashid Ahmed Lone with members Mr. M.I.Kirmani and Mrs. Amina Farooqi gave this decision.
The complainant had alleged that Airtel disconnected her mobile phone without any notice and she had also not made any request for its disconnection. She took her complaint before the Forum and proved that deficiency of service had caused economic loss and mental agony to her.
The Forum has directed Airtel to restore her mobile forthwith and also pay compensation amount within four weeks failing which complainant shall be entitled to interest at the rate of six percent. An amount of Rs. 2 thousand has also been awarded as litigation cost in favour of the complainant.
