Early Times Report
Jammu, July 6 : On the eve of 417 birth anniversary of Sri Guru Hargobind celebrations which were held yesterday at Gurudwara Chattipatshai has angered saveral Sikh organizations. Various Sikh organizations have criticized the Sikh leaders for using the religious ceremonies for political grounds for the personal benefits. The Sikh devotees went to Gurudwara Chattipadshi for celebrating the auspicious occasion and listening religious hymes but the stage turned it into a political gathering where all the Sikh Devotees were subjected to security harassment due to the chief minister security.
It was for first time in 20 years when frisking of women and even children was done at the Gurdwara due to the political show instead of the religious function. Various Sikh organizations have termed it as an organized political show by National Conference (NC). J&K Sikh Welfare Association, President Bhupinder Singh (Pappu) said, "We respect political interests but turning the religious function totally into a political function was injustice towards Sikh Sangat. NC hasn't done anything for our youth but only exploited our vote bank." SIKH STUDENT FEDERATION (MEHTA) Provincial president Sardar Rajinder Singh has criticized the NC and the stage organizer for turning religious function into political function which had upset all the Sikhs devotees. ASPCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said. "No doubt the political area is also important but not at the cost of politicians our Hazuri Raagies (Highest level of priests), which were kept waiting. This has not only annoyed the devotees but the Raagies too which is matter of concern for all Sikhs." It should be very clear that Sikhs are not with any particular political group which the so called Sikh leader has claimed at the religious function. Renowned Sikh Scholar Daleep Singh Deepak also said politicians should desist from attending the religious function as devotees come for prayers not for political lectures.
