Early Times Report
Udaipur, July 6 : The Jammu-Kashmir Suraksha Manch, Udaipur protested in front of the Collectorate today in call for abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. The protesters filed a memorandum to Prime Minister of India through the District Collector's Office.
The group also protested against the 3-person-panel formed by the Central Government for sorting out the disputes over constitutional rights given to residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
Hemendra Kumar Shrimali, coordinator, Jammu-Kashmir Surakasha Manch said, "The decision of forming a 3 person panel for a national issue is not acceptable and the Government should dissolve the Article 370."
According to Article 370, the Indian constitution grants special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the article, J&K gets special provisions as a state, which is not granted, to any other state in the country. It lets J&K have a separate constitution of the state, which came in force on 26 January 1957. The article also had a provision till 1965, that let J&K have a Sadr-e-Riyasat for the Governor and Prime Minister in place of the Chief Minister. Similarly, the state has been granted many autonomous rights.
According to the memorandum given to the Prime Minister today, the Surakasha Manch will continue their protests until their demands are fulfilled and the final report of the 3-person-panel is not taken off the Home Minister's website.
