Maiden entry of 3 local teams in pre-quarterfinals
14th J&K Police Martyrs' Memorial Football Tournament

SRINAGAR, July 6: For the first time in the history of the tournament that three local teams, representing district associations (DFA) Baramulla, Anantnag and Budgam, have made it to the third round of pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing 14h J&K Police Martyrs' Memorial Football at Bakshi Stadium, here today.
In the meantime, the professional side of J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC)-A and visiting team of Uttrakhand Police also qualified for the last 16 stages of this knock-out competition.
Earlier, in the second round of the competition, JKPDC-A trounced Jammu-A 9-1. Nigerian to their side, Demenenge was top scorer with three goals while Amir added two. Gulzar, Urfan, Shabir and Adnan also figured among the goal scorers. From Jammu-A, Karun reduced the margin.
In another match of the day, DFA Baramulla registered a 4-2 win over Jhelum Sports beating latter in tie-breaker. Earlier, the match ended in a goalless draw in the stipulated time.
And, later in the penalties, DFA Baramulla emerged winner.
The DFA Anantnag also won their tie today making it 4-0 against Young Iqbal in an afternoon match. Aqib was star striker with three goals while Shahid added one.
Meanwhile, in another scheduled match, Uttrakhand Police blanked DFA Bandipur 6-0. Ashok struck twice while Shishir, Sourab, Selendra and Veer Singh scored one goal each to make it a big win.
One of the today's matches was witnessed by Minister for Sports, R S Chib. Incharge Secretary, State Sports Council, Daleep Thusoo, IGP Armed Kashmir, Rouf-ul-Hassan, DIG Armed, T Namgyal, DIG IRP Kashmir, SA Hamid and a host of other senior officers were present.
FIXTURE: Safalo-A V/s JKPDC-A at 8 am; Maharashtra V/s DFA Sopore at 10 am; Food and Supplied V/s DFA Budgam at 5 pm at Bakshi Stadium tomorrow.
